Events and Marketing Manager
Mercedes Jorge joined the Tampa Bay Sports Commission (TBSC) team in May of 2023 as the organization’s Events and Marketing Manager. Jorge is responsible for helping with the growth of the Event Development Institute (EDI) while also assisting with creative and marketing materials for TBSC and EDI events and event clients.
Mercedes has spent her entire career in the sports industry, particularly in college athletics. She came to the TBSC from the University of South Florida (USF) where she spent two years as the Director of Basketball Operations and one year as the Coordinator of Basketball Operations for the Women’s Basketball team. While at USF she was responsible for coordinating all aspects of team travel, logistics, and budget and overseeing the extremely successful USF Women’s Basketball Team Camp and High School Coaches Clinic. In addition, she was the liaison with athletic communications, alumni relations, marketing, and community outreach, and spearheaded the popular USF women’s basketball recruiting social media accounts, among numerous other duties. Before arriving in Tampa, Jorge spent a year and a half as the women’s basketball Director of Basketball Operations at Presbyterian College and two years as a Graduate Assistant at Georgia State for their Women’s Basketball program.
Prior to her coaching career, Jorge spent four years as a collegiate basketball player. Playing one season at Indian River State College and three seasons at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where she graduated with a B.S. in Human Factors Psychology. While being a student-athlete she averaged double-digit scoring, earned both an All-Academic and All-Conference selection from the Sun Conference, and set multiple scoring and rebounding records.
A native of Orlando, Florida, she played her prep years at Lake Mary High School where she helped the Rams win four district titles and three conference titles.

The University of South Florida and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission will serve as co-hosts for the event at Amalie Arena, with two national semifinal contests played on April 4, while the national championship game will be played Sunday, April 6.

During Gasparilla Bowl week festivities, the TBSC and the Replay Tampa Bay initiative, teamed with the Bowl, Fanatics and WWE Global Ambassador, Titus O'Neil, to celebrate the Bowl's Community Day at Sligh Middle Magnet School. The #ReplayTampaBay distribution event helped put 200 new footballs back into the hands of our local youth as we continue to Help Keep Kids in the Game!
