Red Bull Flugtag Tampa Teams Unveiled ahead of November 9 Event

TAMPA, FL – Tampa Bay is officially cleared for takeoff as the top 34 submissions were accepted to participate in the first Red Bull Flugtag Tampa since 2011. The lucky teams of five – one pilot and four ground crew – were announced Monday night at a selection event held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa.

In an incredible show of enthusiasm, over 200 applications were submitted to the Red Bull Tampa website from all over the country. Out of the teams chosen to launch their one-of-a-kind airships off a 27-foot-tall flight deck constructed at the Tampa Convention Center, all but two came from the city of Tampa or surrounding areas. Universities across the state were represented, including the University of South Florida, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida Atlantic University, and more.

“More than 200 teams applying to be a part of Red Bull Flugtag shows just how much our community truly loves this event,” said Rob Higgins, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.  “Congratulations to all of the teams that were selected. We can’t wait to see your aircraft take to our sky in front of an incredible crowd on November 9th at the Tampa Convention Center.”

Notable team submissions include Fantastic Flying Legends of Wrestling (winners of the past two Tampa Red Bull Flugtags), JoogSquad (global YouTube creator group), the Tampa Bay Rays, and Put a Wing on It (NFL Champions Chris Long and Beau Allen).

Teams made up of college students, business owners, and lifelong best friends found inspiration from various places when submitting designs for their aircraft. From college mascots to wrestling legends to military-inspired aircraft, all 34 teams will be ready to be judged on a combination of criteria that includes craft design, creativity of their pre-flight skit, and flight distance. All accepted craft concept designs are now available on the Red Bull Tampa team’s page.
