Stretching from Martin County to the Dry Tortugas, Florida’s Coral Reef is one of the largest coral reef ecosystems in the world and the only barrier reef in the Continental United States. And while it accounts for nearly 70,000 jobs and provides almost $6 billion in revenue for state and local economies, scientists warn that unless immediate action is taken, Florida’s Coral Reef could disappear by 2040.
