MIAMI, FL – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today – 100 days out from the inaugural match – that the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup field is set with the qualification last night of Nicaragua as the 12th and final participating nation in this year’s continental championship.
Nicaragua defeated Haiti with a global score of 4-3 following a home-and-away series played March 24 and 28, during the FIFA window. Tuesday evening in Managua, the local team scored three goals in the last ten minutes to overcome a 3-1 deficit following the first leg in Haiti.
Nicaragua now joins Group B, alongside tournament host United States, Panama and Martinique. Group B will visit Nashville (July 8), Tampa (July 12) and Cleveland (July 15) for the group stage matches.
This will mark the second Gold Cup to be hosted in Tampa Bay and Raymond James Stadium since 2011.
The 2017 Gold Cup will once again feature the USMNT as they will meet Martinique. In their only other previous matchup, the USMNT defeated Martinique, a 2-0 win in 2003 (Foxborough Gold Cup). Panama is also back in Tampa Bay for second time as they prepare to face-off with Nicaragua.
