Replay Tampa Bay Teams with Local Organizations to Build Bikes
TAMPA, FL – As part of the year-long collection drive, Replay Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission (TBSC), Elder Automotive, the Tampa Bay Lightning, onbikes and Flying Fish Bikes will team-up for the first time to assemble and then distribute 100 brand new youth bicycles to underprivileged kids in the Tampa Bay community. The bicycles will benefit United Way Suncoast Agencies.
The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, March 28 and will feature over 100 volunteers converging on the West Patio at Amalie Arena between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to assemble 100 youth bikes. Each bicycle will then be gifted during a presentation ceremony on Ford Thunder Alley shortly before the Lightning’s contest with the Toronto Maple Leafs that evening.
“The Lightning are proud to collaborate with our outstanding partners and host this special event of assembling and presenting new bicycles to deserving youth in our community,” said Kasey Smith, Senior Director of Community Relations for the Tampa Bay Lighting. “Together, we believe sports and an active lifestyle can play an important role in a child’s life, helping them to become healthy, self-assured and dynamic future leaders.”
Aligned with the Replay Tampa Bay mission, onbikes is a Tampa based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2011 to raise funds for at-risk youth. Aimed to providing kids their first bike, onbikes is restoring the self-confidence, health, and overall well-being of the at-risk youth of the community. Over the past five years onbikes has provided more than 2,000 bicycles to at-risk and foster kids throughout the Tampa Bay area.
Fans are encouraged to donate a new or gently used sporting good at our on-site collection station that will be staged on Ford Thunder Alley on the West Plaza.
Replay Tampa Bay is an annual donation drive that collects new and gently used sporting goods in an effort to help keep local kids “in the game”. Thanks to the continued partnership between the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, Elder Automotive, and local professional franchises, more than 2,000 items have been collected and distributed to local kids in need since 2011.
